1949
Our founding year, when James "Jim" Milton Bailey began working for Grady W. Jones Co. (GWJ Co.), an original Towmotor dealership
1955
GWJ Co. reincorporates as The Bailey Company, Inc. after Jim Bailey returns from the Korean War and raises money to place a big bet on forklifts, an innovative technology disrupting the material handling industry
1965
Caterpillar Tractor Company purchases Towmotor and rebrands as Caterpillar
1979
Jim Bailey passes away after growing the business to 7 locations throughout TN and GA and Leila M. "Lu" Bailey becomes Chair
1982
Crown Equipment added as a partner, bringing premium electric narrow aisle and very narrow aisle (VNA) solutions to Bailey customers
1996
Bert Bailey
Bert Bailey becomes Chairman & CEO, Lu Bailey becomes Chair Emeritus, and London & Piney Flats facilities are built.
2008
Laura Bailey Busby becomes Chair, Bert Bailey President, and the company certified woman-owned
2015
Bailey achieves an annual revenue milestone of $100M.
2021
Bailey becomes 1st TRUE Zero Waste Certified Business in TN and the first forklift dealership in the nation. Seven locations now have solar generation Bailey sells its first lithium-ion powered forklift.
2022
The Bailey Company, Inc. rebrands as Bailey with a new visual logo aligned with expansion into broader intralogistics.
2023
Bert Bailey retires, with Ryan and Justin Bailey assuming day-to-day operational leadership with Laura Bailey Busby Chair

Bailey is committed to sustainable practices in all our operations. From energy-efficient solutions to zero landfill initiatives, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint and promote green business practices. Our 25,000 sq. ft. facility/headquarters in Nashville became TRUE Zero Waste - Platinum Certified on June 1st, 2020. We are proud to be the first Zero Waste certified forklift company in the US and the first Zero Waste business in the state of Tennessee. Our landfill diversion rate has been 99.4%-99.5% from 2020-2022.
